PROPS & ACCESSORIES FOR BOUDOIR POSING

I love props, but only if they are the right props!
Some props make the photo awkward, so in most cases, it is wise to avoid the standard school portrait props like jerseys. The right props can look fantastic and add mystery and personality. It is about juxtaposition and unexpected combinations. The right props add to the image, tell a story and give your hands something to do.

Here are some ideas that work well, but let's only use them if you can relate to these items.

Cool glasses
A tie
Big clunky jewelry
See-through raincoat
Musical instrument
Veil
Wedding dress
Roller skates or skateboard with knee pads
Pointe shoes and other ballet accessories
Horse saddle, riding boots, gloves, whip
A sophisticated crown
A cool non-covid mask, like a rabbit mask

The prop needs to add something intriguing to the photograph - not make the photograph awkward.

Best to bring things you have a personal connection with and that are ‘You’. Things that remind you of a special person or an exciting time in your life. Sometimes the weirdest things work perfectly, and other times, the most obvious things don’t work. My sessions are very personalized, so it is hard to tell what will work and what not since I don’t shoot everyone the same. So just bring what you feel like, and we will see when we make your combos at the beginning of your session.

Props are kind of similar to expressions. I just had a client flipping ‘me’ off so many times for her photos. It was so much fun. The act of flipping off is an insider joke with her partner. So it totally worked for her, and she lit up every time she did it. For other clients, this would be totally inappropriate. That’s the awesome thing about my sessions. They are all different and totally depend on your personality and how you want to see yourself.
Some clients want to look sexy in every photo. Others want to show their quirkiness or a combo of both. One client brought her plastic ‘tiny hands’ and we took an iconic photo with them that is sexy and fun at the same time. I love playing around and coming up with individualized ideas.

If you have questions, always ask, and we will give you an honest answer!
